Sometimes you will find strange symbols instead of certain letters or punctuation in the pages you are viewing - this is generally not caused by the HTML content for a particular page, but is the result of a few factors:

  • Which Browser you're using
  • the operating system platform (Windows, MacIntosh, Linux, etc.)
  • the character set or fonts available on your desktop

The following table shows how specific Ascii characters are displayed and/or interpreted by your current desktop environment (your Browser, current Font, etc.). Some of these characters may not display properly. That will indicate that your Browser, or the character font/character set currently in use by your Browser, doesn't know what to do with the specified character.
