Reference: Internet-Strange Symbols

Sometimes you will find strange symbols instead of certain letters or punctuation in the pages you are viewing - this is generally not caused by the HTML content for a particular page, but is the result of a few factors:

Which Browser you're using
the operating system platform (Windows, MacIntosh, Linux, etc.)
the character set or fonts available on your desktop

The following table shows how specific Ascii characters are displayed and/or interpreted by your current desktop environment (your Browser, current Font, etc.). Some of these characters may not display properly. That will indicate that your Browser, or the character font/character set currently in use by your Browser, doesn't know what to do with the specified character.
