Reference: Notices-RSU for Email

26 January 2007

Beginning 1 February 2007, the monthly RSU* computation routines (Version 3.1.2) will be computing the RSU totals for Email services at RidgeStar* in a slightly different fashion. This adjustment should generally reduce the RSU values for each Client Account and will significantly improve accuracy.

Background

The latest version upgrade of CommuniGate Pro-> offered additional configurations that permits RidgeStar to expand its ability to service clients with extensive Email requirements. In particular, it cleanly defines the various Types of Email definitions we can allocate to service our client Email based requirements.

We have also taken advantage of the CommuniGate CLI (Command Line Interface) to directly request Email configuration from the CommuniGate server in real time. RidgeStar Version 4 and up systems will see this on their own site at Administrator: RidgeStar-Email (or equivalent).

What Changed?

Prior versions of the RSU computation correctly counted POP3 and ListService entries, but incorrectly counted them again as Email entries. That had little impact on the overall billing Tier, as the Email Service RSU assessment is relatively low (compared to POP3 or ListService services).

However, to be more accurate, Version 3.1.2 of the RSU Computation routines will now correctly reflect the Email count as the sum of defined Aliases, Forwarders, and Groups. It will NOT include any Mailbox, List, or overall routing table entries. Thus, clients with a large number of POP3 or ListService entries will see their Email RSU count go DOWN.
